Influence Of Recommendations

Influence Of Recommendations
Have you ever bought something just because someone you know really well told you about it ? Most people would answer ‘Yes’. The reason is we tend to trust the people we know rather than advertisements. Advertisements surely have an influence but word of mouth advertising has a bigger influence and impact on people. You can spend lakhs of rupees on advertising, but if your customers don’t spread word of your work, it can become difficult.

We make hundreds of choices every single day. But when making certain choices, sometimes we look for the opinion of others. In this situation we can either seek the advice of experts or our friends. Most people would go for the advice of their friends and family.

Mark Zuckerberg says, “People influence people. Nothing influences people more than recommendations of a trusted friend.” This is highly true when it comes to advertising. Your product sells automatically if people speak about it. The reason most businesses do well for generations together is solely because of word of mouth. This is possible only if your customer base trusts you. This has to be from both the ends. It can’t be such that the client trusts the company but the company doesn’t trust the client. Trust works both ways. As a company, your job is to make sure your client trusts you. When they do, they believe in your work. This leads to them telling others about your company. These “others” come to you for your service and they again spread the word. This creates a cycle which ultimately grows your business.

The first thing about trust is properly communicating with the client. Proper communication leads to belief in the brand which leads to building of trust. Ultimately leading to a loyal client base. The recommendations of friends and family members have significantly greater effect on buying decisions than influencers or celebrities. The findings of various surveys show that word-of-mouth is still important in the digital era, with many companies attempting to become “talkworthy.”

The most common thing among the previous generations was word of mouth. In the sense that our parents and grandparents would rather listen to their friends and family over experts. Many a times you have gone to a certain doctor due to recommendations rather than expertise. You might have bought kitchen utensils because the owner once spoke to your grandmother really well. You buy flowers from the same shop daily because your neighbour gave a good review about them. You buy monthly  provisions from the same kirana store because the owner talks nicely and also provides discounts. When you look at the pattern, it shows the other’s recommendations makes you purchase something. We see this happening everyday and let it go unnoticed.

Word-of-mouth accounts for 19 percent of all purchases and has a 90 percent effect on the rest. Everyone on the planet uses word-of-mouth to make purchasing decisions. The only way you business can grow to great heights is when your clients talk good about your service and that’s only possible if you actually provide quality service. Once you establish this, you can motivate your customers to tell others and over time you’ll be able to see your customer base increase and your brand grow.
