Time Management

Time Management

We often find ourselves complaining about not having enough time. We never talk about how we wasted it away on unnecessary pursuits. We complain everyday on how we waste our time but at the same time, we don’t take a step to change from the next day.

Accepting that time is a finite resource is the cornerstone of time management. To avoid stress and increase effectiveness, you must intelligently disperse it among several jobs. The truth is that you can’t manage time because it’s out of your control. It’s all about managing yourself and connecting your objectives with the hours. Managing time entails managing your focus. It’s simple to focus your attention on the task when you plan your calendar. Finally, it enables you to complete more jobs in less time while maintaining good quality.

How do you manage time :

  1. Plan ahead – When you plan your week ahead, you save time by not wasting it on planning during the week. It’s the best way to work on more stuff in short periods of time.
  2. Figure out your priorities – When you figure out your priorities, you don’t waste time on things that are not important to you. You learn to say no to things you don’t want.
  3. Taking short breaks – It sounds contradictory, but taking a break leaves you refreshed. When you’re refreshed you tend to focus on your goals which makes you work in schedules and you save your time.
  4. Correctly set goals – Establish objectives that are both attainable and quantifiable. When setting goals, use the SMART technique. Make sure your goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely.
  5. Set a deadline for completing a task – Setting a time limit for completing chores allows you to be more focused and efficient. Making the tiny extra effort to determine how much time you need to devote for each activity might also assist you in identifying possible difficulties before they emerge.

The only truth is we all have just 24 hours in a day. How we make use of that 24 hours is upto us. Let’s say you sleep for 8 hours, you still have 16 hours to do other things. You can hit the gym, take out time for that hobby you’ve been putting off, finish that book, cook what you love, spend time with your loved and much more. It’s all about how you prioritise things. You can’t keep giving work as a reason because when you do that, you become a slave to it. You end up doing nothing for yourself. So make up your mind and stop giving excuses.
